Quickie Review: CoverGirl Bombshell

Welcome to my new series of quickie reviews! A place where I can do quick-first-impression of drugstore or high end products that I pick up in my travels! I plan on doing a combination of blog posts and videos on my YouTube account so keep an eye on both!

CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara

The first thing I noticed was that the different kinds of brushes. The mascara works as a two step process. A rubber brush is suppose to provide “extreme volume” and the second traditional bristle brush is suppose to provide “an intensifying top coat.”  I pick up the color very black which is the blackest black in the line. I really do like the packaging but it’s a bit cumbersome. The product comes with .660 fluid ounce of product between the two wands which is about .20 fluid ounces more than a normal mascara comes with. As far as the product and how well it works, I’m fairly impressed with the results. The product promises “10x more noticeable lashes vs. bare lashes” which seems kind of unfair to bare lashes and not quite sure how this is calculated but my lashes did look much longer.
I started the application with curled eyelashes.

All in all, I think the product provides A LOT of length but not so much in the volume department which is what it is marketed for. It did clump a little bit when I was putting on the second step so I think the 2nd step is kind unnecessary. It’s not a bad mascara by any means but for me, it didn’t give me the volume I was hoping for. The only two cons about this product are it is a VERY wet product so if you have hooded lids (like myself) it transfer everywhere and the two brushes are pretty big.

Final thoughts:

Good lengthening mascara
Great color
Pretty packaging
2 step process seems unnecessary
May clump
Will transfer to hooded lids because of wet formula

My "current" skin care routine

I did a blog post last year about my skin and how I was committing to a better skin routine. I had just gotten into the world of makeup and it was soooo frustrating that makeup wasn’t looking good on my oily and acne-prone skin. I was spending money on foundation that looked horrible and actually made my pores look larger. I’ve gone through a lot of different products over the last year and I’ve finally found a few products that have changed my life and my skin. I’ve done a video on it and I wanted to also post a blog about the products and where they can be found. I hope you enjoy!

Click picture above for my video on my skin care!

Morning Routine:

I bounce between two cleansers:

Biore 4-in-1 Detoxifying Cleanser

Clean&Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleanser (This may actually be discontinued)

Then I follow it up with a chemical exfoliant:

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Gel Exfoliant

If I have a breakout or a need a little extra treatment:

Paula’s Choice CLEAR Regular Strength  Daily Skin  Clearing Treatment w/ 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide

Then I always moisturize with a lotion that has a sunscreen of some sort:

Olay Total Effects Moisturizer  + serum  Duo with SPF 15

CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

Nightly Routine:

If I’m wearing makeup I will double cleanse:
1st with: Clean&Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleanser
Then with: Paula’s Choice CLEAR Pore Normalizing Cleanser

Then I follow up with the chemical exfoliant again:
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Gel Exfoliant

Then I moisturize with:
CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

Then I go in with my eye treatment cream:
Cliniques Anti-gravity firming eye lift cream

On days that my skin is particular angry with me I treat my skin with a mask:

Lush Mask of Magnaminty

a cheap one from Walgreen’s or Walmart.

These steps I have taken to clear up my skin and pores has really changed my life. It may sound hyperbolic but coming from someone who use to struggle with cystic acne to someone who barely gets acne.

I hope this helps you in your path to clearer skin!

*I am by no means a person of infinite knowledge about skin and how it should be treated medically. I am not a dermatologist or makeup artist so the ramblings above are just my opinions. If you have questions about skin care, I recommend you see your dermatologist.

NYX Love in Paris – "Let Them Eat Cake" Palette Review

I couldn’t justify buying the Naked 3 – I tried to for the last few months but since I’m going to England soon it just wasn’t possible. So I searched high and low to find a nice dupe. I didn’t have to search that far before I stumbled upon the NYX Love in Paris collection. There’s lots of various of this palette with really adorable names related to France such as “Parisan Chic” and “Je Ne Sais Quoi”. The “Let Them Eat Cake” is a rosy/pink toned palette that is not an exact dupe for the Naked 3 palette but it’s a nice cousin to it.

The Palette.

How cute it the bow closure?!

2nd row

3rd row.

Let’s talk about the pro’s and con’s…

Cheap! ($10)
A nice selection of colors (mattes, shimmers, and even a dual-chrome one which I was not expecting)
Complementary colors
Packaging and name is adorable

Color pay off is not that great (Using a eye shadow base would help)
It’s missing a brow bone color

All and all, it’s a decent pallette for the price point is really easy to travel with.

Tarte Bow & Go 3-in-1 Holiday Gift Collection Review

Let’s just talk about how I squealed like a little girl when I opened this up Christmas morning. My parents picked this up because they knew it was something I wouldn’t buy myself normally or I would have to save up my money! I’ve been eyeing Tarte Cosmetics for awhile trying to see if I could justify a $20 mascara but now I don’t have to face that obstacle for a while.

Let’s go over what you get.

You get this eye shadow palette which I have mixed feelings about it. There are 16 shades that range from matte to shimmery ones.

Here’s a shot of the palette.

 Here are the swatches.
Stand out colors : Beaming Bronze & Hot Cocoa.
Color Fails: Tickled Pink & Grateful Grey.

Stand out Colors: Truley Taup, Peachy Keen, Roasted Chestnut, and Butter cream Frosting.
Color Fails: Ideal Ivory & Pumped Up Purple.

The color failures are really just a result of patchy swatches, unblendablity, and lack of pigmentation.

The next thing you get is middle box contains 2 Lights, Camera, Lashes mascaras & 2 SmolderEYES Waterproof Liners in Fig and Brown.

The pigmentation on these eyeliners are AMAZING! The Brown blends a little bit better than the Fig but both are buildable.

The last thing you get is 4 Lipsurgence Lip Creams.

The packaging is beautiful on these and all are colors that would work for everyday or for a special occasion.

The pigmentation is FREAKING AWESOME! All of the colors would work on EVERYONE’s skin tones. My favorite is Thoughtful which is a nice neutral brown. (also I spelled thoughtful incorrectly – please don’t judge me too harshly)
